Sengkang and Punggol, for your information if you haven’t been to either, are not Singapore. They are devoid of buildings, have wide open fields and *gasp* parks; there are few buses and cars and most noticeably, there’s roadkill galore.
I awoke at the bright and early time of 630 to head down for the Newton Active Run where yours truly was participating in the Men’s Open run because I’m having an identity crisis. This is the first 10km run I’ve done this year and at 631, the reasons for this couldn’t have been clearer. The route for some reason, involves circling a park, some highway bridges and this massive open field. It feels almost like the jogs you were forced to do in Primary school when all fields look massive to you anyway.
So anyway, I figured I’ll finish the run and get on with life. 24ish minutes and 4km later, I found the pace slightly slower than I had intended so I thought I’d reset my walking the next km before attempting a 5min/km pace. 7 minutes into that, I was too tired to carry on so I walked til the 7km mark where I figured I’ll run the last 3km at a reasonable non-tiring speed. That turned out to be a 18 minute run which is the same pace as what I started out with which made me feel kind of stupid.
Life continued thereafter. I’m a great storyteller.
